The idea of establishing this seminary was conceived in 1987 after the creation of Akwa Ibom State out of then Cross River State.  In 1989, the dream of 1987 became a reality and a Bible Training Centre was established for the training of ministers in Calabar after, the approval by the Church Council.  The founding principal of the institution was Late Pastor I. B. Ita.

The bible training centre was first located at 101/31 Marian Road, Calabar, later it was moved to The Apostolic Church manse at Queen Duke Street, Calabar.  Further, it was moved to Ukim Ita for about – two and a half years.  From Creek Town, the young College was brought back to its birth place, 101/31 Marian Road, Calabar, as its present permanent place.

After the death of the founding principal of the College, the church council approved the appointment of Pastor Dr. B. E. Duke JP as the rector of the institution.  The Apostolic Church Bible College which started as a Bible Training Centre (B.T.C), now goes beyond National boundaries and is indiscriminate in her admission policy.

Because of many responsibilities, Pastor Dr. B. E. Duke relinquished his office as the Rector of the institution and Chaplain Dr. Obong E. O. Ita (J.P MACTS) was appointed as the acting Provost of the Seminary on August 1st, 2010.

In September 21-22, 2010 a team of inspectors from Association of Christian Theologians in Lagos came to inspect the college for the purpose of accreditation and to give her the status of corporate membership.  Finally, in October 11, 2010 the Seminary was accredited as a corporate member of the Association of Christian Theologians.

This accreditation now qualifies the seminary to award Bachelors of Arts degree in theology and all other related disciplines to any student who is qualified.
